Lanoxin 500micrograms/2ml Solution for Injection
(Digoxin)
This leaflet is a summary of information about your Lanoxin injection, please read it carefully. If you want to know more about your illness or your medicine, ask your doctor.
Lanoxin Injection contains 0.5mg (500 micrograms) of the active ingredient, digoxin, in 2ml ampoule. Equivalent to 250 micrograms Digoxin per ml. The injection is a sterile solution which also contains ethanol (alcohol), less than 100mg per ampoule. It also contains less than 1mmol sodium (23mg) per ampoule i.e. essentially ‘sodium free’. Lanoxin Injection comes in packs of 5 ampoules.

Lanoxin belongs to a group of drugs called cardiac glycosides. These are used to treat certain heart conditions, such as heart failure and certain irregularities of heart rhythm.
Lanoxin suits most people but a few people should have it.
Ask yourself these questions to check whether Lanoxin is right for you.

Some heart disorders are not usually treated with Lanoxin, such as conditions called heart block, some heart arrhythmias and certain cases of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Your doctor should know if you have any of these.
During treatment with Lanoxin take special care when you drive or operate a machine. The herbal remedy St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum), should not be taken, when taking Lanoxin. If you already take St. John’s seek the advice of your doctor, as soon as possible, before stopping the St. John’s wort preparations.
The dosage is variable and it may be changed by your doctor. The usual dosage for adults and children over 10 years is between 0.5 and 1.0 mg, with approximately half of this being administered as the first dose and the rest at intervals of 4 or 8 hours. Elderly patients may receive a lower than usual dosage for adults and children over 10 years of age. The usual starting dose for children under 10 years is between 0.020 and 0.035 mg per kg of bodyweight over 24 hour period, with approximately half of this being administered as the first dose and the rest at intervals of 4 to 8 hours.
Each dose of Lanoxin Injection should be given as a slow injection into a vein over a period of 10 to 20 minutes. Your doctor will discuss the best method of treatment for you.
Lanoxin may cause side effects in some people.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of the following happen to you while you are having Lanoxin.
Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you notice any other side effects from your medicine which are not mentioned here.
