Lanoxin™ 250 microgram tablets
(Digoxin)
Please read this carefully before you start to take your medicine. Keep it safe as you may want to read it again.
This leaflet contains important information about your Lanoxin tablets. If you want to know more about your illness or your medicine, ask your pharmacist or doctor.
Lanoxin tablets contain 0.25mg (250 micrograms) of the active ingredient digoxin. They are white, flat and marked with 'WELLCOME' and 'X3A'. There are also some other ingredients in Lanoxin tablets. These are lactose monohydrate, maize starch, oxidised starch, rice starch and magnesium stearate. Your Lanoxin tablets are supplied in bottles of 500 tablets.

Lanoxin belongs to a group of drugs called cardiac glycosides. These are used to treat certain heart conditions, such as heart failure, and certain irregularities of heart rhythm.
Lanoxin suits most people but a few people should not have it. Ask yourself these questions to check whether Lanoxin is right for you.

Some heart disorders are not usually treated with Lanoxin, such as conditions called heart block, some heart arrhythmias and certain cases of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Your doctor should know if you have any of these.
During treatment with Lanoxin take special care when you drive or operate machine.
The herbal remedy St. John's wort (Hypercium perforatum) should not be taken, when taking Lanoxin. If you already take St. John's wort, seek the advice of your doctor, as soon as possible, before stopping the St. John's wort preparations.
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.
This medicine contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking Lanoxin.
The dosage is variable and it may be changed by your doctor. The first dose for adults and children over 10 years is between 0.75mg and 1.5mg as a single dose. For some patients e.g. the elderly, this dose may be given in divided doses 6 hours apart. Alternatively a starting dose between 0.25mg and 0.75mg may be given daily for a week.
The starting dosages are then followed by a daily dose (maintenance dose), which will be decided upon by your doctor, depending on your response to Lanoxin. This dose is usually 0.125mg to 0.75mg daily.
Your response to Lanoxin will be monitored by your doctor and may involve blood tests.
Elderly patients may receive a lower than usual dosage for adults and children over 10 years of age.
The usual starting dose for children under 10 years is between 0.025mg and 0.045mg per kg of bodyweight over a 24 hour period. Depending on your child's response to the medication the doctor will decide upon the most appropriate maintenance dose.
Lanoxin may cause side effects in some people.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of the following happen to you while you are taking Lanoxin.
Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you notice any other side effects from your medicine which are not mentioned here.
Only keep them if your doctor tells you to.
